PAST TO NOW &chair
1、Design Description
The "& chair" is named so because when viewed from the side, it resembles the mathematical symbol "&". This chair has a simple and elegant design, suitable for use in various spaces. The back of the chair adopts a concave shape that conforms to the curve of the human back. When one sits on it, the body completely adheres to the chair surface, thus receiving comprehensive support and being able to relax. Moreover, the seat surface is designed with a curved shape to meet the functions of sitting upright and cross-legged. The legs of the chair are made of walnut wood and echo the curved shape. The curve design is like the limb of a living creature, giving a sense of agility rather than stiffness.
2、Design concept
"Sitting" has become the posture that people maintain for the longest time in life. Prolonged sitting also brings a lot of harm to the body (such as stiffness caused by long-term tension in the shoulders and neck and scoliosis caused by improper sitting posture). The original intention of designing this chair is to let people relieve the burden on the body while sitting and feel comfortable and decent.
This chair is especially suitable for women's body structure and people who need support for their waists. It allows them to sit and work, read, and entertain. The designer cleverly integrates the concave seat surface of the chair into the overall shape of the chair. Sitting on it can provide sufficient support to the buttocks, waist, and neck of the human body. At this time, the human body can completely relax and achieve the effect of not getting tired even after sitting for a long time. Moreover, this concave surface can also correct the sitting posture of the human body and fully correct the spine, thus achieving the function of repairing the body.
3、Product form
This design is inspired by the indentation of the place where one has lain. This naturally formed curved surface is in the shape of the human body and is also the shape that best conforms to the human body.
During the production process, we tried various materials. Finally, we chose polymer materials as the main material for furniture. This kind of material can be recycled and reused repeatedly, thus avoiding material waste. And in terms of production methods, we chose additive manufacturing. During the production process, there will be no sound pollution, light pollution, wastewater pollution, exhaust gas pollution, or waste storage. The fully automated production method will not bring work risks to production workers. However, we also consider the importance of people needing to work. We place fine and safe craftsmanship in handicraft workshops, such as the processing of the soft covering on the surface and the wooden legs. Our goal is to achieve a perfect balance by combining modern technology with traditional craftsmanship.
4、Function
The function of a chair is designed for sitting. How to make people sit comfortably, be healed, and have dignity is the focus of our design. The seat surface of this designed chair completely fits the human body and provides the most comprehensive support. After sitting on it, the body can completely relax. However, the body will not slump down. Instead, it becomes more upright. It makes people sit comfortably and with dignity.
The characteristic of this design is that not only the conventional sitting posture is considered, but also the favorite sitting posture of Asians - cross-legged sitting. Due to cultural traditions and living customs, Chinese people and most Asians have the habit of cross-legged sitting. However, there are few chairs suitable for cross-legged sitting. The curved surface design of the seat part of this chair takes into account the comfort of the legs when sitting cross-legged. Another point is that it is also very suitable for people with smaller statures. Sitting cross-legged on it is very comfortable. When leaving the chair, one can stand up calmly by getting on and off from the side.
5、Differentiation
The biggest unique features of this design mainly include four points:
1
The shape is simple and beautiful, supporting the entire body like a petal.
2
Through a single curved surface, it achieves the best state of ergonomics, giving people a comfortable, healing and decent user experience.
3
Considering two sitting postures, sitting upright and cross-legged, it is suitable for people of different regional cultures and heights.
4
Using the latest technological materials and production techniques, each chair produced minimizes material waste and environmental pollution.
In market competition, uniqueness and cost performance are the most important factors. The shape of this design is unique, and the manufacturing cost is very low. Using modern additive manufacturing technology, there is no need to have production inventory, saving energy and space. The biggest business problem in furniture production is inventory backlog, but we will not have this problem. All inventories are digital files. After receiving an order, the printer starts production. So the cost is maximally optimized.
This chair that integrates art, ergonomics and modern production is the greatest innovation.
6、Sustainability
Traditional furniture design and production consume a large amount of natural resources. Although many furniture also uses recycled materials, the production process still causes inevitable environmental pollution. However, the main body of our chair first uses a material that can be reused. This material can be recycled and reused after being crushed, which can reduce material waste. Secondly, we use additive manufacturing technology. Production can be completed by simply heating the material. There is no environmental pollution in the process. The material is also 100% utilized, and almost no scraps are generated. Fully mechanized production will also reduce the unsafe factors for production workers. In addition, the production plan is flexible and changeable. We can produce according to orders without the need for inventory, and there will be no waste of land area and costs incurred by warehousing. Finally, we also consider the job opportunities for craftsmen. Some processes that require delicacy and safety are combined with manual work to allow workers to produce products with dignity.
