  •    In the long history of design, Alvar Aalto shines like a brilliant star with a unique radiance. This Finnish modern architect, who was born in 1898 and passed away in 1976, is not only an advocate of the humanistic architecture theory but also an outstanding design master and artist. From 1931 to 1932, Aalto, with his extraordinary creativity, designed the Paimio Sanatorium in Finland. In this building full of humanistic care, the modern furniture he initially designed also made a stunning debut, marking a significant breakthrough for Aalto's furniture design on the global stage. Among them, the most eye - catching is undoubtedly the Paimio Chair. Placed in the patient lounge, the specially designed backrest angle of this chair is like a pair of gentle hands, providing the most considerate support to patients, enabling them to breathe more easily. The "people - oriented" design concept embodied in the Paimio Chair is like a seed, taking root in the hearts of countless people.

As time went by, I recalled my college days. Back then, I was like a curious explorer, swimming in the ocean of design. By chance, I came across the design of the Paimio Chair and was instantly captivated by its unique charm. From that moment on, the concept of "putting people first" was deeply engraved in my heart and still influences my understanding of design to this day. "If you keep something in mind, there will always be a response." For years, I've been harboring the dream of carrying on this classic design. However, I've never managed to create a work that satisfies me.

It was not until 2020 that fate seemed to hear my plea and granted me a brief pause. Due to certain reasons, I disengaged from my busy business and returned home, immersing myself in the world of books and engaging in quiet contemplation. During this tranquil moment, I began to delve deep into the fundamental meaning of "sitting," regarding it as a derivation between the body trunk and the ground for profound thinking and design. When my train of thought intersected with the Paimio Chair that had long occupied my mind, sparks of inspiration burst forth like fireworks, giving birth to the Flying Carpet Chair series.

The design of the Flying Carpet Chair makes full use of polymer materials and additive manufacturing technology. The seat surface and the backrest are ingeniously crafted into a curved surface that conforms to the curve of the back. The bending angle and shape of this curved surface are derived from the contour of the Paimio Chair, retaining the classic charm while adding a modern sense of comfort. Once people sit on it, their bodies seem to be gently embraced, allowing them to stretch out fully. The chair legs and armrests are directly made of stainless - steel pipes. The simple yet powerful lines endow the chair with a suspended aesthetic, resembling a magical flying carpet and adding a unique touch of fun to life.

The Flying Carpet Chair is more than just a chair; it is a legendary story of design. It carries Alvaralto's design wisdom as well as my dreams and perseverance, continuing the "people oriented" concept and bringing people a more comfortable and wonderful life experience.
